We’re Snobtacular

Six Arms

Duwardo and I came here for lunch, but he only had 1 hour for lunch. We walked in and it was pretty empty so we figured it would be fine to eat there.

He ordered the special, which was a turkey wrap and I had Maria’s Masterpiece, which was a hot turkey sandwich. Really, not too difficult to make. Anyhow…we waited for about 45-50 minutes before our food came out. Not once did someone come to tell us that it would take that long. We sat by the kitchen and saw only one guy in there cooking while the 2 waitresses were just standing around doing nothing. Really…at least they should’ve told us that it would be a while. The worse part, when the guy was done making our food, he rang the bell and none of the waitresses even came over to deliver it to us. After watching our food sit there for a few minutes, the cook eventually came out and just served us himself. I ended up giving him my credit card in fear that the waitress would never come. Duwardo and I ended up scarfing our food down and rushing out of there so that he could make it back to work in time (he didn’t).

This place is an awful place to go for your lunch break…it’s ok for happy hour, but honestly, if you’re in any sort of time crunch, DO NOT GO HERE! Awful service! I used to like going here, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back anymore.

Crepe Cafe

July 31, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I have found my favorite breakfast place…it’s also great for after dinner dessert and drinks.

Duwardo and I came here one evening for dessert. We had a peach crepe with ice cream and a wonderful glass of Siverlake Riesling (which is absolutely delicious and went perfectly with the crepe). I was in love with this place immediately.

Since then, I’ve come here twice for breakfast/brunch and both times had the fresh fruit blintz with no bananas. That is absolutely the best thing ever. I love that the fruit is locally grown and fresh. I took my friend who was visiting me, EMT, here for brunch one morning and she had the Westchester and ate every bite.  Duwardo and I went there for brunch once and he had the Blame it on Rio, which was absolutely delicious as well.

The service is pretty good, it can be a bit slow because there’s only one person making crepes, but it is sooooo worth the wait.

Rosita’s

July 14, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I had my bi-weekly lunch date with RT yesterday and we opted to meet up at Rosita’s in Greenlake. I’ve heard mention of this place before, but hadn’t been able to try it yet. The great thing about this place is the parking lot they have…YAY! It’s in the alleyway north of the restaurant.

We both ordered the lunch special and got a chicken enchilada and beef taco. Word of advice, eat your taco right away because it gets soggy if you don’t. RT was smart, she ate hers first, I was excited about the enchilada and went for that first and made a mess trying to eat my taco. I gave up, it was a completely loss cause because one side was soggy. I’m not ok with a soggy taco. The enchilada was decent though…actually pretty tasty. I’d been craving an enchilada for a while now and that hit the spot. Well actually since it was only one enchilada it teased the spot…but had I gotten 2 enchiladas instead of the soggy taco, it would have hit the spot. The chips and salsa were pretty tasty too.

I liked that they didn’t chase us out, we were able to sit there for an extra 45 minutes to gossip and catch up on life without feeling rushed. Plus the meal for both of us came out to less than $20. NICE!

As I’ve stated before, being originally from San Diego, I’m picky when it comes to Mexican food. It’s certainly not the greatest Mexican I’ve had, and not even the greatest I’ve had up here, but it’s probably one of the better places. While I wouldn’t go back for the soggy taco, I’d go back for 2 enchiladas!

Marlai Thai

July 14, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Duwardo, AK, AD and I went on a “double date” (ok, so it was hot and were seeking air conditioning) to Marlai Thai. The guys had been playing softball in 90+ heat, so we just wanted somewhere cool to hang out and eat. We walk into Marlai and we couldn’t tell at all if it was air conditioned or not. It was definitely cooler than outside, but not the “ohhhhhh that feels sooo good” air conditioned feeling. We figured the air must be on…but set on low. We were able to cool off though in the long run, so something good was going on there.

Duwardo, AK, and I ordered our Thai food staples. For me it was the garlic pork. Duwardo is usually a toss up between pad see ew or yellow curry, however there was no pad see ew there so it was yellow curry for him. AK had the pineapple fried rice. AD opted to be adventurous and got the eggplant with basil. Upon first bite, I wasn’t too impressed with the garlic pork…in fact I was ready to say “not garlic enough!” However, upon digging around, I discovered that there was a delicious, garlicy, and absolutely taste sauce that was under it all. I promptly mixed the dish and every piece of pork and broccoli was now covered in this sauce. YUM! The pork was cooked a bit dry, but who cares, the sauce was good! I actually ate all of it! Duwardo seemed to enjoy his curry. It was a bit thicker than other curries, but it had a good flavor to it. AK finished his pineapple fried rice but also commented “the one at Arraya is better.” I’m not quite sure if AD liked her eggplant. She commented that it was “interesting” and “not exactly what I expected” but I don’t think she disliked it as the plate also got finished.

I also have to give props to the staff for keeping our water glasses filled. Like I said, two guys who played a double header in softball in 90+ heat drink a lot of water. (AD and I sat in the heat watching the games…so we were fairly thirsty too). Seriously, they would walk by fill our glasses, go to the next table, and then walk past us and fill our water again. And they always did it with a smile and didn’t seem annoyed that they kept having to bring us water.

It’s certainly not my favorite Thai place, but it’s probably the better Thai places around where we live. Prices are a little more expensive than other Thai places. I’d suggest going elsewhere like Orrapin or Jamjuree if you’re in those area. However, if you’re in the Sandpoint/Wedgwood/U-Village area and are looking for some decent Thai food, I’d recommend this place.

Sawatdy

Duwardo and I had take out from here once before and we loved it. I just remember loving the Phad Tao-Hoo Priew, which is basically fried tofu in tomato and tamarind sauce.

Well, we came back there recently with my visiting friend, ET (no, she’s not an alien!). Duwardo had the pad see-ie, which was SOOOOOOOO GOOD! I had the phad tao-hoo priew again and it wasn’t as good as I remember, but still really delicious. It was a bit too sour this time. ET had the pa nang with scallops and she also really liked it.

This place always gets really crowded and the service isn’t the greatest (you feel a bit rused at times), but overall it’s a really great place to eat. I’ve only been to a few places on Bainbridge Island, but so far this has been my favorite.  So if you happen to be on the other side of the Puget Sound, check this place out and get the phad see-iew!

Olive You

June 16, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Duwardo and I decided that we needed to try a new restaurant. We’ve fallen in love with so many restaurants that we keep going back to them…and while it wasn’t really a rut…we just needed to shake things up a bit.

We decided to go to Olive You for dinner…and we are so glad for that! Duwardo had the Poisedon burger, which was made of shrimp, crab and calamari sautéed in wine zitrone sauce. I opted for the Guvechie Veggiani, carrots, eggplants, zucchini, potatoes, onions sautéed in olive oil with fresh basil, mint garlic and dill over buttery jasmine bay leaf rice pilav with tzatziki YUM YUM! It was an absolutely delicious meal.

My favorite thing about this place was that there was this man playing the acoustic guitar while we were eating. It was very good and very romantic too. My only complaint was the service was a bit slow as they were severely understaffed. There was one, maybe two watiers, for the whole place…and it was packed!

We will definitely try this place again. There’s a few things on the menu that I’m looking forward to trying! I think this place is going to be a new “go-to” place for us. YAY!

Elysian Brewery

June 8, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I’ve been here a few times and have avoided writing about it because I can never tell if I like the place or not.  I like the environment, the service is really nice and I always feel well taken care of…but I’m not so sure about the menu.  I always look at the menu and think “Oh, none of this stuff sounds appetizing to me right now…it sounds too heavy.”  Then I order something, and I’m usually surprised at how good it is.  Although…it usually is greasy and heavy…but then, it’s bar type food…so it’s supposed to be greasy!

I’ve tried the steaks and frittes…yummy but I could only eat so much before it got too greasy for me.  The philly cheese steak is delicious, but super messy…be prepared to use your napkins to bits!  Steak tacos…also pretty yummy.

The beer, I hear, is pretty good as well.  Overall, not somewhere I would think of myself to go…but when it’s suggested, I’m always down to give it a go.  My friends love this place, and I’ll keep going back with them.

I haven’t been to the Tangletown one yet, so I can’t vouch for that.  I’ve only been to the Capitol Hill one.

Taste of India

June 2, 2007 · Leave a Comment

While I’m not going to claim that I am an expert in Indian food, this has been the best place I’ve had since I’ve been here (although, I’ve heard rave reviews of Annapurna, but have never tried it). Duwardo and I came here from the recommendation of BL and TM.

I love samosas, so we of course had to have that. It was delicious and they gave me a good amount of the tamarind chutney that I love so much. YUM! We ordered the beef mushroom masala, tandoori chicken. Also, very yummy! My favorite part though…GARLIC NAAN!!

Overall, I was pleased and happy with this place. I want to go back for more samosas!

Cedars Restaurant

May 25, 2007 · Leave a Comment

This place was pretty good…but I don’t think it’s the best Indian restaurant in Seattle as it claims. I went there for lunch today with JJ. We ordered the vegetable samosas, spinanch naan, mango curry with lamb, and chicken tandori.

Now, I love samosas…I think I could eat off of them, and I love the tamarind sauce that comes with it. The samosa here were…a bit disappointing. I didn’t think they were as good as some of the other places I’ve had…actually, it was probably the worse samosa I’ve ever had. The spinach naan was pretty tasty though. The mango curry had a good flavor to it and the basamati rice that came with it was also very good. The chicken tandori was very moist and soft…so I appreciate that. I just wasn’t wowed by it in any way.

Overall, I’ve been to better Indian places in Seattle (and now I just realized that I haven’t written about it yet…shame on me!)

Oh, and I got a bad vibe from our waitress. I don’t know why. She seemed a bit haughty to me….but like I said, it was just a vibe.

Chiang Gourmet

Duwardo and I have been there a few times, and the food has always been decent.  However, we’ve now decided to not return here because of a take out incident.  We have take out menus at our house so we called in an order for two dishes, a vegetarian and a meat dish.  They were pretty basic stuff, so when I went to the restaurant, imagine my shock when the prices were more than advertised on the take out menus and instead of the $13 I was expecting to pay, I got stuck with a $22 bill!  Are you kidding me?  $22 for two dishes at a chinese restaurant?  Unacceptable!

We’ve decided we’re going to stick to Jade Garden for our chinese food take out needs.  It’s much better AND cheaper.
