My friend and I went to Oliver’s for lunch one Saturday afternoon. The menu had exactly what she was looking for, so she was excited….Tuscan Tomato Bread Soup.
We were quickly seated and given our menus. She ordered the Tuscan tomato bread soup, small salad, and a glass of the Henry Estate pinot noir. I ordered the hot turkey sandwich. My friend seemed to enjoy the food, as she ate it all.
My hot turkey sandwich was HUGE. It was an open faced sandwich with a side of mashed potatoes. The turkey itself was a bit salty, but not unbearable. The mashed potatoes were delicious though. The portion was so large that I wasn’t able to finish it at all.
Overall, I don’t think this place was horrible, but it’s certainly not my favorite place to eat lunch in downtown Seattle…basically, I’d only come back here if I was running around Seattle on a Saturday afternoon and all of the other restaurants I wanted to eat at were closed.

The restaurant atop the Space Needle. This was where I ate my first evening in Seattle with my family a few years ago. Since then the chef has changed.
I went on Friday to this restaurant because my childhood best friend was getting proposed to that night at this restaurant. First off, hats off to the people at this establishment for helping my future best friend-in-law in planning this elaborate proposal. I was to bring my friend to the restaurant and the front desk phoned up to the restaurant to inform them that we were on our way. When we got there, we played it out so that I would get a phone call and she would be seated first, where her fiancee was waiting on his knees to propose with a glass of scotch and the ring in ice. Anyhow, the manager of the restaurant helped arrange the whole thing and even helped place the ring in ice for them. So, this is a very accommodating restaurant.
Now, back to the food. I ordered the pan roasted garlic chicken. I thought it was good, but not spectacular. It was certainly better than your average roasted chicken, and it was definitely a large portion (I only ate about half of it and while I wasn’t full, it was enough that I wasn’t hungry either). My friend had the wild mushroom bisque and said it was delicious and also the baby spinach and morels and thought they were good as well. One person had the new york strip and he thought it was fabulous. Another had the seared rare ahi tuna and said it was quite good, and the final two in our group had the seafood mixed grill and they seemed to enjoy it, but it appears that they didn’t get as much food on their plates and were still a bit hungry. We also shared a bottle of Perrier Jouet Grand Brut champagne to celebrate. It wasn’t as sweet as I like, but not especially dry either.
Overall, you’re definitely paying for the view. I’ve had much better food at other fine dining establishments. It’s something that everyone should do once though for the experience, but I would not recommend it based on the food and the price. It’s certainly good food, but not worth the price tag (and yes, I know the price tag includes the view…)
